Our cafes first birthday & our weekly seasonal menu.
What a week of celebrations it has been! We are filled with happiness looking back on our first year of café trade to see the dream we have brought to life. We set out with a goal to create a relaxing place for locals to share with family and friends, unique from anything else in the area, surrounded by stunning art and gorgeous homewares. And here we are.
If you are yet to eat in our beautiful light-filled café, let us introduce you to the Moss and Wild menu. With a strong focus on nourishing, wholesome food, and drink, you can expect everything from fresh juices and fruit smoothies to raw counter treats, healthy salads, nutritious winter soups and our famous sourdough toasties. Not to mention the coffee – expect only the best of brews made by us.
Since we are still fighting the winter weather, you’ll find a few delicious comfort dishes on our current menu, including our special curries, pastas, and taco bowls. Creating a new menu each week is such a fun part of the process, but one thing always remains… our locals love for the favourite sourdough toasties. Using Irrewarra sourdough, we rotate our toastie flavours each week just to keep things interesting. Look out for our salami, Mersey valley cheddar and tomato relish toastie which has established itself as a much-loved choice. Simple yet so tasty!
If you love a sweet treat as much as we do, then believe us when we say our counter creations will leave you coming back for more. We pride ourselves on making everything in-house from the café kitchen, which is why our baked goodies and raw treats are ever-changing. (Keep an eye out for our raw snickers slice which never lasts long or give our date truffles a try – they have been an absolute hit!) Snickers not your style? Make sure to order our chocolate brownies for a post-lunch sweetener. We’ve perfected the recipe to provide the right amount of crunch around the edge and a gooey decadent centre – who could say no?
Along with our mission to use fresh and nourishing ingredients, we are passionate about supporting the local community. This means, using local produce wherever we can! If it’s home-grown herbs you’re after, we recommend Penola’s best-kept secret - Petticoat Lane Herb Garden. We love to visit the Petticoat Lane Herb Garden, a wonderful, well-established community garden, with the most magnificent array of herbs, perfect to add flavour to our dishes.
We would love to think that our café can inspire the inner chef in our community! At the very least perhaps you’ll be excited to prepare the grazing platter. Add some pleasure to the cooking process with our range of Citta kitchen utensils. Thanks to this New Zealand design company, we are left without words, a team who create imaginative homewares with a purpose to offer moments of joy and happiness. From the chopping board to measuring jug, spatula, and spoon, their items prove to be both functional and beautiful.
Shop the Citta range online now via our website or in-store. While you’re there take a seat and taste our menu or indulge in a hot drink – our doors are open for everyone.
